CERTH

Centre for Research and Technology - Hellas , CERTH / CPERI / PSDI

The The Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) was founded in 2000 and is located in Thessaloniki. The mission of CERTH is to promote the triplet Research – Development – Innovation by conducting high quality scientific research and developing innovative products and services while building strong partnerships with industry and strong collaborations with research centres and universities in Greece and abroad. CERTH consists of five Institutes: Chemical Process & Energy Resources Institute (CPERI), Information Technologies Institute (ITI), Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT), Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB), Institute of Bio-Economy and Agri-Technology (iBO). CERTH/CPERI’s mission is to conduct high caliber basic and applied research, to develop novel technologies and products and to pursue scientific and technological excellence in selected areas of Chemical Engineering, including Energy, Environment, Materials and Process Technologies, in response to the needs of the industrial and productive sector. CERTH/CPERI is classified among the Institutes of Excellence in Greece and employs a scientific staff of more 250 people, while its inflows is around to 10 million €/year.

Role in Plastic2Fuels

CPERI/CERTH is the project Coordinator (http://hydpro.cperi.certh.gr/en/profile/aboutus) and will undertake the upgrading of py-oil (derived from plastic wastes pyrolysis) via a single hydrotreatment (HDT) step, rendering a marine product and reducing in parallel the associated H2 consumption. HDT is the main premise of the proposed approach, aiming in both py-oil stabilization and partial deoxygenation. In addition, CPERI will validate the technology towards marine fuels production in TRL5, investigating in parallel the stabilization and storage guidelines of the produced marine fuels. Finally, CERTH will perform the techno-economic and environmental assessment.
