Plastic2Fuels
The Plastic2Fuels project aims to develop an innovative technology for producing renewable maritime fuels by utilizing plastic waste through advanced thermochemical processes, with the goal of reducing emissions and enhancing sustainability in maritime transportation.
Plastic2Fuels project
Aims - Objectives
....
The proposed process aims to decarbonize maritime fuels by utilizing plastic waste within the framework of developing an integrated and sustainable technological system, which limits their accumulation in the environment while also contributing to the reduction of depletion of fossil energy sources.
....
Plastic waste will be utilized through a thermochemical technological approach, studying pyrolysis and catalytic hydroprocessing as the main processes for producing maritime fuels.
....
Pyrolysis and hydrocracking of plastic waste will be investigated on a laboratory scale for oil production.
....
Based on the research results, the sustainability assessment of the proposed technology will be conducted, as well as the techno-economic study.
....
The upgraded produced fuel will be evaluated according to the specifications of maritime fuels (ISO 8217), while blends of up to 7.5% by volume with conventional maritime fuels will be further evaluated and tested in ship engines.
....
The produced pyrolysis oil will be upgraded through catalytic hydroprocessing to produce maritime fuels, validating the process at TRL5 readiness level.
....
The dissemination of the Plastic2Fuels results will ensure their wide diffusion and utilization during and after the project's completion.
